There are several factors to consider when commissioning a stained glass window (or door also) to be made. The design (floral, scenic or geometric), the colors, and the density of the glass to be used for the purpose you wish to achieve.
The Heron Window (top left) is made with opalescent glass - you cannot see through it and light is diminished coming through it. This is directly over the homeowner's bathtub and needed to give total privacy as it is facing the street on the front of the house. (Macko Residence - Beekman Place - Sarasota, FL)
The Shield and Southern Cross kitchen windows (top right) are made with textured cathedral glass. The outside view is distorted but more light comes inside. (Villa DiPol Resort - St. Lucia - West Indies)
The shutters (right) are made with clear and colored mouth blown antique glasses. These allow you to see outside with faint distortion and there is no interruption of light coming into the room. (Garcia Residence - Hidden Forest - Sarasota, FL)
A stained glass window is best installed as a separate panel. This allows the integrity of the existing window to be maintained, and if need be in the future, the panel can be removed. We can repair your broken glass panels as we specialize in traditional lead came as well as the newer copper foil technique.
Our original designs also can incorporate custom bevel sizes and elements as we do our own beveling. Click here for further information
